About Luke Doyle
Aside from a Long day in the stream fishing, or a bike ride in
the mountains, making Pottery is my passion. In 2013 I earned my BFA in
Ceramics from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. I wasn't quite ready to
make the jump to graduate school, So I headed out to Montana to work at the
Archie Bray Foundation mixing clay. I also worked for Tara Wilson Pottery
in a Work/exchange program. I did this for 7 months. I am currently
volunteering at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Ceramics studio for Kyle
Houser.
In 2014 so far my work has been Juried
into the Silpe Gallery in Connecticut by Douglas Peltzman. I am also
currently showing in an Invitational at the Taos Clay Center in New Mexico
organized by Scott McClellan. In August I am honored to be the Studio
Technician for the ceramics department at Edinboro University. During that time
I will prepare for graduate school/Residencies.

Artist Statement
My pottery takes life in Atmosphere. Similar to my lifestyle. I fire my pots in Wood/Soda kilns as a sense of "letting go" after having so much control in the making process. When im in the studio, I try to take advantage of the clay as much as possible. looking for qualities such as Texture, Color, and dimension. With that in mind I frequently carve into my forms, Whether its lines to separate space, or curves to mimic movement. When creating texture im either using a loop tool creating hatch marks, or shellac resist to create relief on the form. I tend to bounce back and forth with different designs that constantly crave my attention. In my pots I strive to create a sense of comfort, craftsmanship, and unique design.
